MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at
Monticello men’s basketball team
ended its regular season with a
64-55 win over Southern Arkansas
on Senior Day.
The Weevils (19-8, 8-6 GSC) also
solidified its spot as the No. 4
seed in the Gulf South
Conference West Division,
pitting them against either West
Florida, Montevallo or West
Alabama in next week’s GSC
Championship Tournament.
Montevallo and West Alabama were
still playing at the time of the
release.
The tournament game is scheduled
for Wednesday, March 4 at 5:30
p.m. at the Desoto Civic Center
in Southaven, Miss.
In the win over Southern
Arkansas (12-14, 6-8 GSC), the
Weevils had to fight from behind
after trailing by two at the
halftime break. UAM outscored
SAU 43-32 in the second half,
after connecting on 15 of its 24
field goal attempts, increasing
the team’s final number to 42
percent from the field.
The Weevils dominated the
boards, winning the category by
a final margin of 41-30,
highlighted by senior Raymond
Wright’s 15 rebounds. Wright
also scored a game-high 23
points to create his ninth
double-double of the season and
21st of his career.
Also reaching double digits in
the win were senior Deron Brown
with 14 points, senior Don Riley
with 12 points and sophomore
Marius Williams with 10 points.
SAU was led by Justin Stuart’s
21 points, followed by Corey
Clark with 11.
Five UAM seniors were honored at
the end of the game for their
time spent at UAM. Saturday’s
game was the last regular season
game for Deron Brown, Antwain
Cosey, Raymond Wright, Don Riley
and Bernard Seymour.
