Servantes has been
named the Gulf South
Conference Special
Teams Player of the
Week for his efforts
in UAM’s 34-32 win
over Ouachita
Baptist.
Servantes (Fresno
City, Calif.)
blocked two field
goals in the win
over then ranked No.
14 OBU. His first
blocked field goal
was recovered by
junior teammate
Marcus VanBuren, who
ran 75-yards for a
touchdown, giving
UAM a 14-7 lead with
2:41 left in the
opening quarter.
His second blocked
field goal clinched
the win for the Boll
Weevils. Leading the
Tigers by two with
32 seconds remaining
in regulation,
Servantes found an
open alley and
blocked Jason
Fowler’s 22-yard
potential
game-winning field
goal to give UAM its
first home win and
first conference win
of the season.
Servantes also had
eight tackles and
two pass deflections
in the win. One of
his pass deflections
resulted in an
interception in the
end zone by senior
teammate Quenton
Arnett.

quarterback Harrison
Beck and Delta State
linebacker Lardester
Hicks-Green earned
this week’s GSC
Offensive and
Defensive Players of
the Week honors.
