J.L. Williams and Larry White
Earn 2nd Team All-Region Honors
December 12, 2007
MONTICELLO, Arkansas -
Senior running-back J.L.
Williams and sophomore linebacker Larry White have been named to
the 2007 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Football 2nd
Team.
Williams, a native of
Gainesville (Fla.), earns the honor after racking up 876 rushing
yards this past season, while crossing the goal-line nine times.
Williams missed four games in the 2007 season due to injury.
Prior to his injury, he was averaging just over 125 yards per
game, which would have easily put him over the 1,000 yard mark
had he not been hurt.
In the October 20th
game against West Georgia, Williams recorded his season high of
31 carries for 275 yards rushing, while adding three touchdowns
– helping UAM record an overtime win over the Wolves 35-32.
Williams put his name in the record books with that performance,
making his total the best ever in school history – passing Jerry
Bingham who set the previous record in 1978.
Williams has racked up 2,463
rushing yards and 16 touchdowns while earning four letters with
the Boll Weevils. With those numbers, Williams is now sixth best
in UAM history in career rushing.
White, a native of Atlanta
(Ga.), earns the honor after leading the Boll Weevils in tackles
in the 2007 season. His 102 total tackles (43 solo) averaged out
to close to 10 tackles per game.
In the October 13th
game against North Alabama, White led the Boll Weevils in a
season-high effort of 15 tackles. However, White and the Weevils
lost that game 27-46.
Over the course of the season,
White recorded one sack for a loss of nine yards, while tallying
three pass break-ups and one quarterback hurry.
The Gulf South Conference
dominated the regional teams, and White and Williams were two of
32 GSC players to make either the first or second regional
teams.
