SEARCY, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was swept by the Harding Bisons with final scores of 15-10 on Saturday, followed by 6-5 and 4-3 outcomes on Sunday.

With the losses, UAM drops to 7-35-1 overall and 1-14 in GSC games, while Harding improves to 30-21 overall and 11-7 in the GSC.

Saturday, 15-10
In Saturday’s loss, the Weevils were able to fight back from an eight-run deficit through the first three innings with a three-run fifth inning and a four-run eighth inning.

Junior Brian Johnson was responsible for all three runs in the fifth with a three-run homerun to right center field, his third blast of the season.

Half of the four runs in the eighth inning came from a two-run homerun by sophomore Michael Diffie. Junior Blaine Ivey capped off the deep balls in the game with a solo-shot to left field, his team-leading eighth of the season.

Junior Brandon Miller (0-5) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs off nine hits through the first two innings. Harding’s Brodie Brumley (6-3) earned the win after going the first six innings, allowing five runs off six hits with five walks and 10 strikeouts.

Sunday, 6-5
Sunday’s first game needed three extra frames to decide a victor, ending in Ryan Kincaid’s bases-loaded game-winning two-RBI single down the left-field line in the bottom half of the 12th inning of junior Richard Atwood (0-3), who only gave up those two runs in the final four and two thirds innings of the contest.

Junior Matt Whiting forced the Bisons to have to score two runs in the inning after smashing a solo-homerun down the left field line in the top half of the stanza to give UAM a 5-4 lead. It was Whiting’s second blast of the season.

The Weevils forced the game into extra frames with a four-run seventh inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single to right center by junior Matthew Lewis. Atwood and junior Rod Williams also had run-producing at bats in the inning.

Harding’s Josh Creveling (3-3) earned the win after tossing the final five and two thirds innings, allowing two runs off six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Sunday, 4-3
After Harding scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, junior Tyler Henry tied the game with a three-run homerun over the left field wall in the top of the fourth inning.

Harding won its second one-run game of the day in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI fielder’s choice by Adam Darby, plating J.D. Glenn, who led off the inning with a double to left center.

Sophomore Brett Stewart (0-5) was saddled with the loss after tossing the first six innings, allowing all four runs off nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. Harding’s Kyle Kline (7-3) earned the win with a complete-game effort of seven innings, allowing three runs off four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
