UAM ATHLETICS OPENS DOORS TO NEW INDOOR
PRACTICE FACILITY
MONTICELLO – As a part of the “Campaign for
Athletics,” the University of Arkansas at Monticello is currently in
the process of moving into its newly completed indoor practice
facility.
The facility, located just beyond the north end zone of the football
stadium, houses offices for each of UAM’s five full-time football
coaches as well as the head baseball coach. The building also has
two small meeting rooms and two larger meeting rooms that will also
be used for classrooms and other functions.
The main attraction in the new facility is the 40-yard indoor
football field, giving the Boll Weevils an excellent option for
practice during inclement weather. UAM’s other sports teams and the
marching band will also have access to the facility when necessary.
“Moving into a facility like this is really something special,” said
UAM football coach Gwaine Mathews. “We’ve been watching this
building take shape for a while, and I’m real proud of how it turned
out. Our players are loving it, our coaches are loving it and as
soon as the fans see it, I know they are going to love it as well…
Over the course of a year, we have gone from one of the worst to one
of the best in the quality of our facilities.”
The “Campaign for Athletics” began prior to the 2008 season with the
renovation of Cotton Boll Stadium, including the press box, home
side grandstands and the installation of an electronic message board
on the visitor’s side press box.
“Our football stadium has really changed for the better over the
last year,” said UAM Director of Athletics Chris Ratcliff. “All of
the support from the area businesses, community members and alumni
made this possible, and UAM is very thankful.”
The official grand opening ceremony for the new facility will take
place prior to UAM’s home opener against Delta State on September
12.
