Campus Recreation Areas and programs are available free of charge to all current UAM students, faculty & staff. Current UAM ID card must be presented to enter facility. All users of campus recreation facilities do so at their own risk.

UC Rec Areas

The UC Rec Areas are located on the lower level of the University Center (UC). Facilities include: 2 racquetball courts/a wallyball court; a multipurpose gymnasium, a free weight room, and locker rooms with shower facilities. The Exercise Center is also located in this area. Contact UAM Health Services, 460-1051, for more information.

Hours of Operation
Fall and Spring Semesters:
Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 7:50 pm
Friday 8:00 am - 5:05 pm
Saturday & Sunday 3:00 pm - 6:50 pm

NOTE: Rec Areas will be CLOSED on all holidays & holiday weekends, Saturday home football & basketball games, between semesters & for scheduled classes, special events and activities.

Summer Hours are reduced and will be posted.

UC Locker Room

Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms include: shower facilities; full and half-length rental lockers; dressing area with mirrors, electrical outlets, and a wall mounted hair dryer; and rest room area. Combination lockers are available for rent at a fee of $12.00/year or $6.00/half year. Pay fee at Cashier’s office, then bring the receipt to IM / REC office for locker assignment. Lockers assigned on a first-come basis. No personal locks. No food or other perishable items. A $5.00 penalty is assessed if locker is not cleared of possessions or renewed by locker expiration date. Locker Rooms are available for use during Open Rec hours. 

Reservations

Reservation of Campus Rec areas is limited to the UAM community.*Reservation requests must be submitted on the appropriate form, available in the IM/Rec office, at least 48 hours in advance. *UAM Executive Council may authorize requests from outside groups. These requests require a minimum two weeks advance notice.

During Open Rec Hours, the racquetball/wallyball courts may be reserved with a 24 hour notice, as well as the south half of the gym, unless there are special scheduled activities. Court & field reservations are limited to one hour.

Equipment

The following equipment is available from the IM/Rec office for overnight and/or weekend check-out with current UAM ID:

basketballs racquetball racquets & balls
wallyball ball & net ping pong paddles & balls
jump ropes indoor volleyballs & sand volleyballs
softball bats & balls dumbbells* (not overnight, may not leave the area)
footballs rubber throw down bases
frisbees tennis racquets & balls
horseshoes shuffleboard set
soccer balls croquet set

General Policies

  • Current UAM lD cards are required for use of all rec areas.
  • All users are encouraged to consult a physician for a health check-  up prior to use of any rec area.
  • Food, drinks, gum, tobacco products are not permitted.
  • Rec area employees are not responsible for personal items of rec area users.
  • Appropriate shirts and shoes required in all areas, except sand volleyball courts and swimming pool.
  • Appropriate behavior and language is expected at all times.
  • Be respectful of others with vocabulary content and volume.
  • Noise must be kept to a minimum inside and outside.
  • Use of personal music devices in UC rec areas must not be heard by other users.
  • All users must abide by a one hour time limit if there are others waiting to use the area.
  • Individuals will be required to reimburse the university for any damage.
  • Please report any problem areas to Public Safety (460-1000) or to Intramural and Recreation Director (460-1046) a.s.a.p.
  • Profane language, loudness, other inappropriate behavior, or failure to follow policies is cause for loss of Rec Area privileges.

Specific Area Policies (in Addition to General Policies)
FREE WEIGHT ROOM

  • Must be 18 years of age or older to enter this room.
  •  No backpacks, gym bags, etc. allowed in the free weight room.
  • Dumbbells (3lbs-15lbs) available from the IM/REC office with current UAM ID.
  • Weight Room equipment must remain in the free weight room.
  • Use spotters.
  • Do not drop or bang the weights.
  • Weights must be replaced after each use.
  • Appropriate athletic apparel must be worn. No blue jeans or other clothing with belts, buckles, zippers, etc. These items damage the upholstery.
  • Remove all keys and other items from pockets before sitting on any of the benches.

RACQUETBALL COURTS / WALLYBALL COURT

  • Only soft rubber non-marking shoes may be worn.
  • Protective goggles are highly encouraged; available for check-out with ID.
  • Maximum number of persons on a court at a time: racquetball - four; wallyball - ten.
  • Do not pull on the wallyball net.
  • Do not hit racquets against the wall.

GYMNASIUM

  • Only soft rubber non-marking shoes may be worn; no black soled running shoes, no boots, no heels, etc. at any time.
  • All shoes must be wiped on the mat prior to entrance into the gym.
  • Food, beverages, gum, and tobacco products are not permitted, even in the bleachers.
  • No tape permitted on the floor or walls.
  • All equipment must be clean and non-marking. Clean non-marring mats must be placed under any equipment that may mar the floor surface.
  • The utmost care must be used when moving pieces of equipment in and out of the storage rooms and across the gym floor.
  • No hanging on the basketball rims.
  • Balls are not to be thrown at the ceiling tiles, lights, cameras, etc.
  • Bleachers and benches are not to be moved without permission of IM / REC Director.
  • UAM groups may reserve half the gym for practice of various sports & activities.
