Phi Alpha Social Work Student Honor Society: Theta Zeta Chapter

The purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society for social work students “is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work” (Phi Alpha Website, October 5, 2011). Our local chapter of Phi Alpha is Theta Zeta, and our faculty sponsor is Marie R. Walker, M.S.W., LMSW.

The criteria to become an undergraduate student member of Phi Alpha include:

  • declare social work as a major;
  • achieve sophomore status;
  • completed 8 semester hours of required social work courses;
  • achieve an overall grade point average of 3.0 and 4.0 scale; and
  • achieve a 3.25 grade point average in required social work courses.

Students who meet the above stated criteria are encouraged to apply for membership on the Phi Alpha Application.
