Topics of discussions in the ROTC class included scheduling for next
semester and Land Navigation. Students will become officers after
graduation.
"We commission them right after
graduation," said Sgt. 1st Class Jerry Johnson, training NCO for the
ROTC department.
Johnson has worked with the ROTC program
for eight years and has been at UAM since Spring 2006.
"The numbers are increasing; enrollment has
doubled since last semester, and scholarships are available, Johnson
said.
In the ROTC lab, students are assigned Squad Tactical Exercise
Missions, and they have to go out and execute them. A different leader
heads each mission. The mission was to storm a bunker, lead by Cadet
2nd Lt. Juan Blackman. The Lab takes place on the west side of the
campus behind the University Apartments.
