Billy Hogue

Bookstore Manager to Head Southwest College Bookstore Association

   Billy Hogue, manager of the University of Arkansas at Monticello bookstore, was elected president of the Southwest College Bookstore Association at the organization’s recent meeting in Shreveport, La.

   Hogue is a 1986 UAM graduate with a bachelor of science degree in management. He has served as manager of the UAM bookstore since 1998 and is active in both the SWBCA and the National Association of College Bookstores.

   The SWBCA is a five-state organization consisting of members from college bookstores, lease and third party operated bookstores, vendors and publishers whose items are sold at member college bookstores in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

 

School of Education Announces Winners of Halloween Event

Boo Fest

  The School of Education would like to congratulate Rebecca Smith and Lauren Brooks.  They are the two winners of the door prizes from the Oct. 31 Halloween Boo Festival.

   The event featured games, such as a bean-bag toss, ring toss and bowling. Points were tallied, then prizes were won by answering trivia questions related to the participant's major.

UAM Goes on Television

   Good Morning, Arkansas will feature UAM Nov. 1 on KATV Channel 7. The program will feature the UAM Jazz Band. The program runs from 9-10 a.m. with UAM's segment scheduled to begin at approximately 9:40 a.m.
 

Arkansas AIDS Foundation

World AIDS Day Observance Approaches

   Saturday, Dec. 1 will mark the annual observance of World AIDS Day.  The ceremony will take place at the Open Door Community Church and is sponsored in part by the Arkansas AIDS Foundation.

   The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the church located at 709 West Lee Avenue in Sherwood.

   The purpose of the event is to remember loved ones lost to the disease and at the same time continue to raise awareness.  The event will include guest speakers, local entertainers, AIDS quilt panels, a candle light vigil and the reading of the names. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

   For more information or to submit the name of someone to be remembered, contact arkworldaidsday@sbcglobal.net.  The ceremony and reception are free to the public and any donations will benefit the Arkansas AIDS Foundation.
