Library to Host Traveling Exhibition

The Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to bring a national traveling exhibition, “Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country,” to the University of Arkansas at Monticello in September 2010.

The exhibit will travel to 27 locations throughout the country from October 2007 to April 2012.

Newberry Library of Chicago organized “Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country:  200 Years of American History” in partnership with the American Library Association.  National Endowment for the Humanities: "Great ideas brought to life" supports the traveling exhibition. Other major funding comes from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Sara Lee Foundation is the lead corporate sponsor. Ruth C. Ruggles and the National Park Service provided additional support.

The traveling exhibition based on a major exhibition of the same name mounted by the Newberry Library to mark the 200th anniversary of Lewis and Clark’s expedition.

Mary Heady, special collections and reference librarian at the Taylor Library, recently attended a workshop for host sites held at the Newberry Library.
