Blossoms Win First Conference Match

Paul Smith
Sports Information Director

Senior Kameshia Melton (Grapevine, Texas) had match-high 18 kills to pace the University of Arkansas at Monticello's Cotton Blossoms (8-13, 1-5) to a 3-1 victory over Christian Brothers Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse. The victory was UAM’s first conference victory of the year.

The Blossoms took the opening game 30-21 before CBU tied the match with a 30-18 decision in the second game. UAM won the final two games by scores of 30-19 and 34-32 to seal the victory.

Junior Taura Rush (Joseph City, Ariz.), junior MacKenzie Willis (Andrews, Texas) and sophomore Nicole Ferguson (Brentwood, Tenn.) all had 13 kills in addition to Melton’s 18, while freshman Vikki Crisco (Saginaw, Texas) had 55 assists and tied junior Maegan Martin (Burnet, Texas) for the team lead in digs with 13.

The Cotton Blossoms returned to action Sunday, Oct. 7, facing Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in a non-conference contest at Steelman Fieldhouse.
