UAM to Celebrate Homecoming Oct. 11-14

   The dedication of Weevil Walk, a gathering of All-Americans, and the 40th anniversary of the African-American Alumni are among the highlights of homecoming weekend at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Oct. 11-14. 

   Thursday, October 11 legendary football coach Jimmy “Red” Parker will sign copies of his biography “Red” – Beyond Football at a book signing from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center and later that evening the UAM Sports Hall of Fame will honor the class of 2007 at an induction banquet in the John F. Gibson University Center. 

   Other homecoming highlights include the dedication of Weevil Walk and the William E. Morgan Fountain Friday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of the Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit at the annual A&M and UAM alumni dinner at 7 p.m. in the University Center. 

   The complete homecoming schedule includes: 

Thursday, Oct. 11 

§ 12:30 p.m. – The Homecoming Parade begins at the Fine Arts Center and concludes at the University Center.      

§ 3 - 5 p.m. – Legendary football coach Jimmy “Red” Parker will sign copies of his biography “’Red’ – Beyond Football” at a book signing in the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center Gallery.

§ 5:30 p.m. – Chancellor Jack Lassiter will host the UAM Sports Hall of Fame Reception at his home located at 471 University Drive.

§ 6:30 p.m. – UAM Sports Hall of Fame will honor the class of 2007 at an induction banquet in the John F. Gibson University Center.  Tickets cost $30 per person.  Contact Jim Brewer at 460-1074 or Bill Wisener at 367-5334.

§ 7 p.m. – Bonfire and Pep Rally will take place on the Fine Arts Center lawn. 

Friday, Oct. 12 

§ 11 a.m. – The 44th annual Dr. Scott Boyd Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at the Monticello Country Club.  The two-person scramble costs $40 per team.  Contact Paul Griffin at 367-6892.

§ 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. – Get Together for the Class of 1957 and Friends will take place at the home of William “Bud” Bulloch located at 304 Crestwood.

§ 4:30 p.m. – Dedication of Weevil Walk and the William E. Morgan Fountain will begin at the Victory Bell west of Weevil Pond.  Depending on the weather, the event may take place in an alternate location at Adams Room of Harris Hall.

§ 6 p.m. – Welcome Home Reception and A&M/UAM Alumni and Friends will take place at the Chancellor’s home.

§ 7 p.m. – A&M and UAM Alumni Dinner will take place in the University Center.  Tickets cost $15 per person.  The dinner will include presentation of Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit, the Continuing Connection Award and the Alumni Association Scholarships.  The A&M Class of 1957 and the All-Americans in all sports will be recognized.  The UAM Jazz Band I will perform.  Advance reservations are requested; call 460-1028 or 800-467-8148 to RSVP. 

Saturday, Oct. 13 

§ 8:30 - 10 a.m. – A&M Class of 1957 will hold the 50th Reunion Breakfast in the Fine Arts Center Spencer Gallery.  Contact Carrie Ashcraft at 460-1028.

§ 8:30 - 10 a.m. – A&M and UAM African-American Alumni will hold the 40th Anniversary Breakfast in the Capitol Room of the University Center.  Tickets cost $20 in advance and at the door.  Contact Shay Gillespie at 367-2801 or Classie Jones-Green at 870-536-9159.

§ 8:30 - 10 a.m. – A&M and UAM All-Americans in All Sports Breakfast will take place in the University Center.  Contact Carrie Ashcraft at 460-1028.

§ 10 a.m. – A&M and UAM Alumni and Greek Chapter Reunions will take place at the tailgate area around Weevil Pond.  Contact Lindsey Kight at 460-1396.

§ 10 a.m. – Alumni Softball Game will take place at the Softball Complex.  Contact coach Alvy Early at 460-1158.

§ 11 a.m. – A&M and UAM Alumni Meet-and-Greet Reception will take place at the Victory Bell west of Weevil Pond.  Depending on the weather, the event may take place in an alternate location at Adams Room of Harris Hall.

§ 11 a.m. – Agriculture Alumni Reunion will take place in the Agriculture Building.

§ After the game – Betty Davis will host the Annual Meet-and-Greet at her home located at 1737 Highway 35 West.  Classes of 40s and 50s and friends are invited to attend.

§ 7 p.m. – Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will host their 32nd annual Alumni Fellowship at the Sadie T. Johnson Community Building located at Jordan Park.

§ 8 p.m. – A&M and UAM African-American Alumni Black and White Ball and a black-tie dinner will take place at the Drew County Fairgrounds Auditorium.  For ticket information, contact Shay Gillespie at 367-2801 or Classie Jones-Green at 870-536-9159. 

Sunday, Oct. 14 

§ 11 a.m. – A&M and UAM African-American Alumni and Friends Worship Service will take place at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church located on East Oakland Street.  For more information, contact Carrie Ashcraft, director of alumni affairs, at 800-467-8148 or 460-1028.
