Oct. 4 - The Arkansas Department of Labor Safety Conference will take place in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium at 7 a.m. Oct. 4 - Stressbusters Workshop, sponsored by Gateway Student Support Services, will take place in Harris Hall Room 200 at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 4 - An interest meeting to form BACCHUS, an international association of college and university based peer education programs focusing on alcohol abuse prevention and other student health and safety issues, will take place at held at 3 p.m. in Harris Hall room 201. Now-Oct. 17 - The Ambassadors will hold a Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Any recognized student organization may enter one pumpkin. The pumpkins must be turned in to the Admissions Office by Oct. 17. Pumpkins must be decorated, not carved, and will be donated to a local children's home. They will be judged on creativity, neatness, originality and idea. Tuesdays The Student Government Association and the Student Activities Board meet at 12:40-1:30 p.m. every second Tuesday of each month in the U.C. Caucus Room Any student can participate and attend meetings. The Spatial Information Systems Club meets bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in Room 209A of the Chamberlin Forest Resources Complex. The campus chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People meets at 6 p.m. in Horsfall Hall. Drew Country Writers meet on the third Thursday each month in the First Presbyterian Church library at 6:30 p.m. Members must produce tangible evidence that they write, though they may not have published at this point. Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship hosts "Renown" meetings at 9 p.m. at the MBSF Center (near the tennis courts). Come find out about weekly small groups and upcoming events. Registrar's Office by Oct. 5. Applications are available at the
Registrar's Office in Harris Hall; the Student Services Office on the
Crossett and McGehee campuses; and on the UAM Web page under Current
Students, Registrar, Graduation Information, then select and print the
appropriate application. Unsure of when you may be eligible to graduate?

graduation are still being accepted. The Foliate Oak Literary Magazine seeks creative, disciplined students to be a part of our editorial team. Every month, we post a new issue of our magazine online. Once a year, we create a print issue of our magazine. We are thinking about adding a podcast to our magazine. For more information, contact adviser Diane Payne at payne@uamont.edu. The Ad Hoc Committee on Academics currently is examining issues of how to increase academic standards at UAM. The committee will present concrete proposals by the end of the semester to the Assembly and eventually the administration. It seeks proposals and recommendations from faculty, staff and students about how to raise academic standards at UAM. If you need a good book to read, check out the Book Exchange. The service, provided by the Fred J. Taylor Library and located near the current newspapers, includes a variety of leisure reading materials. Books from the book exchange need not be checked out. Just take a book you would like to read and bring it back when you are finished or bring a replacement if you can. It's as easy as that! Planning a vacation in the Natural State? "Drop-In" Tutoring Services and Study Skills Lab - The tutoring
labs, located on the third floor of Harris Hall, offer tutoring services
Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED!
Students must present a UAM ID and check in at the front desk. For more

Applications are available in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall. The deadline to apply for the spring term is December 1. Job Opportunities On-Campus JobsThe School of Education needs a student worker. The candidate can qualify for federal or institutional work-study. They must have some knowledge of computer technology and knowledge in webpage design. The candidate’s main responsibility will be to assist with the CIV lab. Other duties will include: making sure faculty’s printers have replacement cartridges, setting equipment up in classrooms, and possibly troubleshooting minor technical difficulties. Any interested persons should bring a resume with a brief description of your qualifications to Willard Hall main lobby or room 115. Student Worker: The Office of the Registrar needs a student worker eligible for Federal College Work Study and willing to work up to 20 hours per week. They prefer student with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. The primary job duty is filing and confidentiality is required. Interested students should come by the registrar’s office, first floor of Harris Hall. References may be checked.

Library and Technology Center
The Taylor Library is offering trial access to Oxford Language Dictionaries Online. Initially offering millions of words, phrases, and translations in French, German, Spanish and Italian; the site will expand to include Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Polish. Included are usage examples, illustrative phrases and pronunciation charts. Contextualized language reference help includes notes on life and culture and Word of the Day. Please review this resource and share your comments/suggestions with us. The trial ends Oct 17. Access the trial at: http://www.oxfordlanguagedictionaries.com. Can it!-The Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship will be collecting used aluminum cans to raise money for needy African children. Please take your cans to the MBSF.
The library hosts exhibits of University recognized student
organizations. For the month of October, the library is hosting an
exhibit for Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. To schedule a time for your

Stafford Loan Borrowers - If you have borrowed a federal Stafford loan while attending UAM, and you will graduate in May 2008, transfer to another school following the fall 2007 term, be enrolled less than half time at UAM during the fall 2007 semester or no longer be enrolled at UAM following the fall 2007 semester, the federal government requires that you completed a mandatory exit counseling session within 30 days of completion of the spring term or within 30 days of withdrawing or falling below half time. Go to http://www.mapping-your-future.org and complete the Stafford exit counseling. Visit http://www.nslds.ed.gov to access your loan history. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 460-1050 or come by Harris Hall Room 300 if you need help with this requirement. Official Degree Audit - If you are seeking a baccalaureate degree and you have earned between 60 and 90 hours, you should meet with your academic adviser to complete a signed degree audit for your chosen major and minor (if applicable). Once you reach the 90-hour point, you will be unable to register for classes until a signed audit is on file in the Registrar’s Office. If you’d like to know the status of your degree audit (whether one is on file or not), please contact the Registrar's Office at 460-1034. Praxis Test-takers - The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has announced that Praxis test-takers will now only be required to pay a registration fee one time during a testing year. For more information, please visit the Praxis Web site. Writing Center-If you would like to improve your typing skills, make sure you visit our typing lessons link. Fewer typos may mean an improved grade. Improving typing skills may also make writing papers more enjoyable. The Writing Center, located in MCB 113, is open 8-3 Monday through Friday. Our tutors are eager to assist students with any writing assignment. Please visit our Web site. Tuberculosis Screening-Arkansas Law states
that all students who were “foreign born” are subject to the
requirements of the Arkansas Department of Health Tuberculosis Screening
Program for Foreign Born University and College Students. In order
to comply with these regulations, all students born outside the United
States must begin by completing a Tuberculin Skin Testing Database form
as soon as possible. Students who have not completed all requirements by
Monday, Oct. 8 are required by law to be administratively removed from
all classes. Visit the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center on the Monticello campus from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday and 2-10 p.m. Sunday.
