Campus Police Log

Sept. 10

Patrolling all parking areas.  Out with boost at Willard.  Patrolling all areas on campus, working parking.  All areas appear 10-4.  With students about not parking on grass.

Loud music was coming from a car in the Bankston Parking Lot.  This officer walked over to the car and the driver was standing near by.  I instructed him to turn his music down.  I also asked him to pull up his pants.  It should be noted that this student had on two pairs of boxer shorts, the full boxer short of the top layer was visible.  His blue jeans were synced around his lower thigh, just above the knees with a belt.  He did not have a shirt on at this time.  The student stayed on his cell phone, said his music was not loud and he didn't even have a sound system.  I again asked him to pull his pants up.  He took his shirt off the trunk of the car and started to pull it over his head, still talking on the cell phone.  I instructed him to pull up his pants or be charged with indecent exposure.  I requested his student ID and he said I don't have it.  I told him to get it and bring it back.  He stated that it was in Hamburg and all I needed to know was he was a student.  He went on to point at this student parking sticker which was expired.

He said he knew his rights and it was not 10 p.m. and he did not have to show me nothing.  I then instructed him to show me his driver's license.  He said I don't have that either.  He stated "you don't need to see it."  He started walking around to the far side of the car.  At this time, I told him to stand still while I was speaking to him.  I told him to look me in the eye and quit talking on the phone.  I advised him that he needed his ID because he was getting a ticket.  He then said, "Who are you because I know my rights and I am filing a complaint on you.  You are not dealing with some dumb person."  He said, "You don't know who you are messing with."

Another officer walked over from Public Safety.  I requested that he bring me a ticket book.  The student then called his father.  He kept telling his father, "She is f--king in my face telling me my music is too loud and to pull my pants up.  I don't have to do a d--n thing she says.  I attempted to run his tags and had poor reception on my radio.  I then asked the other officer to run the student's car tags.

The student then told the other officer his name, date of birth and dorm room number and refused to provide this information to this officer.  I wrote the campus ticket for Disorderly Conduct, Expired Parking Sticker, Failure to furnish student ID or DL, Indecent Exposure and Loud Music.  I placed the ticket on the windshield of his car.  The other officer spoke to the student additionally and I left the area to complete the locking of the remaining doors on campus.

While at the office, a lady knocked on the door and stated her husband was supposed to pick her up at 2100 but had not shown up as of 2120 and that she would like to wait at the office for him.  I contacted Monticello Police Department with the description of the vehicle.  As I was leaving to try to locate the lady's husband, I observed another officer in a heated discussion in the Bankston Parking lot.  I asked the lady to wait where she was and then proceeded to the Parking Lot where the other officer and a subject were arguing.  Both were extremely agitated and I intervened to attempt calming the situation.  The other officer requested a ticket book.  I returned tot he office and retrieved both campus and municipal books and returned and handed them to the other officer.  She wrote the citations and then left.  I spoke to the subject briefly then returned to patrol.

At 0230, I observed a group of individuals talking on the catwalk of Maxwell Hall.  I stopped to ask if everything was OK, and they reported to me that an individual was upset and acting strangely while walking around asking if anyone had a knife he could use.  They gave a description of the individual and I went to that individual's room and made contact with him.  I asked if everything was alright and that he had been reported as being the one asking about a knife.  He seemed upbeat and denied making the request.  I apologized for the intrusion and returned to patrol.

I was stopped by a Maxwell hall resident concerned over the well-being of a student sitting by herself at the pond.  I made contact with the student and discovered that she did, in fact, appear to be distressed.  I asked what was wrong and was there anything I could do to help her.  She stated that she was just thinking and that her friends were coming to pick her up.  I stayed with her until her friends arrived.
