Exit Michael Vick

Chad Newton
Contributing Writer

It’s a shame that one of the greatest quarterbacks of his time has fallen by making several bad choices in his life.  Dog fighting has taken its toll on Michael Vicks’s career. Vick’s name was indicated in dog fighting rings on April 25, 2007, his dog club was named “Bad Newz Kennels” after his hometown Newport News a.k.a. Bad News, Va.

In July Vick as well as his three cronies received indictments in an 18-page document describing the charges. Details of the indictment documents included charges of Vick physically executing pit-bulls that lost or did not perform up to standards.

Undercover informants also watched gambling activities go on during the fights. Charges included traveling interstate commerce to attend and participate in dog-fighting activities. Substantial evidence of animal testing  and veterinary treatment of injured animals that performed well or won.

The dogs were purchased from Va., N.C. and N.Y. Fences were built around the compound to avoid public exposure of their heinous operation.

The dogs were rolled or tested to determine if the dogs were worthy of competition. The unfortunate ones were shot, electrocuted, slammed and drowned.  Vick has made numerous appearances in the dog fights within the eastern and southern regions. The dog-fight purses varied depending on the wins the dog had accumulated. Lowest purse was 1000.00 dollars up to highest purse of 26,000 dollars. In April 2007 Vick and his cronies carried out mass executions of 8 dogs after the testing session

This is not the first time Vick has been in the news; let’s take a look back into his NFL history:

  • 2004 – Two small time drug dealers were pinched by Virginia Police for distributing marijuana with intent to deliver. The vehicle was registered to Michael Vick. When coach Dan Reeves got wind of this, he ridiculed Vick for being in with the wrong crowd and reminded him that he is an Atlanta Falcon, a professional NFL Player and you must keep a positive brand image at all times.

  • Late 2004 – Michael Vick and his leeches were at Atlanta Hartsfield Airport to aboard Air-Tran in destination for Newport News, VA. When passing though a security checkpoint with the security camera monitoring found two of Michael Vicks flunkies stealing a semi-expensive watch that belonged to security screener Alvin Spencer. Mr. Spenser filed a police report about the incident. Mr. Spencer claimed that Billy “White Shoes” Johnson has been known as the Atlanta Falcons “fixer” has interfered in the investigation. According to the Washington Post, Mr. Spencer received his watch less than a week later.

  • 2005 – A young woman by the name of Sonya Elliot filed a civil lawsuit claimed that Michael Vick infected her with genital herpes in 2002. She also claims that Vick visited clinics under the alias of “RON MEXICO”. Elliot said that Vick did not inform her of his disease, (that’s what happens when you go unprotected).  In April 2006, Vick’s attorney Lawrence Woodward stated that the suit was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

  • Late 2006 – after a big loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Georgia Dome, the fans were displeased with the Falcons performance and Michael Vick decided to react to the fans displeasure by making obscene gestures with his two middle fingers in an expression to go F--- yourselves. Not only he made these gestures, he was wearing the brand name gloves of NIKE. Vick has a multimillion dollar contract with Nike. Nike’s owner and chairman Philip Knight was very displeased with Vick’s reaction to the fans as well as using the NIKE logo gloves to assist his obscene gestures. Vick was slapped with a 10,000 dollar fine from the NFL and issued an apology to the fans and the NFL league. He also was convinced of donating 10,000 dollars to an unknown charity.

  • Early 2007 – At Miami International Airport, Vick was ordered to surrender his water bottle in which the Miami Police claimed that there was an illegal substance in Vicks secret compartment water bottle. Test resulted that no illegal substances were not in his bottle and Vick was cleared of any wrongdoing. Later Vick claimed it was jewelry in the secret compartment of his water bottle

When Vick was indicted federal authorities searched one of his homes in Surry County, Va. They found a 15-acre isolated place to set up illegal activity. Authorities found during the search over 50+ pit-bulls, a number of buried dogs (that did not perform well), rape stands (where female pit-bulls were tied and raped by male pit-bulls to breed pups), and fighting arenas.

Undercover agents attended the fights and witnessed dogs electrocuted, shot, drowned and slammed when the loser did not give a good show. The agents revealed that gambling was involved and Vick was also a financier of the dog fighting operations. As much as 26,000 dollars were channeled into one dog fighting match. Four witnesses and three of Vick’s co- defendant snitches are willing to testify against Vick in the illegal dog fighting matches.

Snitches Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor ratted to police that Vick was there and he financed the organization (looks like these guys were not good friends after all). At first Vick denied being involved and had nothing to do with the dog fighting. When federal authorities began seeking a superseding indictment on Vick, Vick decided to fess up to all the charges and cop a plea deal.

Judge Henry E. Hudson has been known as a “Law and Order” judge shows little or no mercy to defendants breaking the law. The deal by prosecutors and Vick’s attorneys has been accepted by Judge Hudson. The deal was Vick will serve 12-18 months in prison. This means in this deal Michael Vick will have to cooperate with the federa

Statistics - An example of some of PETA's so-called humane work.

A Grand Jury will meet Sept. 25 and sentencing will be Dec. 10.  Could other sports and entertainment superstars be indicated as well?

Rapper Earl Simmons a.k.a. DMX's house in Ariz. was raided in search of animal cruelty violations which found over 50 pit bulls malnourished and some buried in his back yard.

The NFL has suspended Vick indefinitely and the Atlanta Falcons owner is now deciding whether he should deactivate Michael Vick from the team. Hudson can also, at his discretion, add more time if he feels that Vick was not sympathetic.

The maximum sentence is 5 years with 3 years of supervised probation and a fine of 250,000 dollars. Vick apologized to the world in late Aug., saying that he committed a terrible act of animal cruelty and he will do the necessary tasks to make amends. He also focused on making it right for the young children that look up to him as a role model. Vick really let the youth down after preaching about not participating in these acts.

Vick also has other issues, the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons have demanded Vick surrender his 22 million dollar signing bonus, endorsement deals are dropping Vick and demanding their recoup of the endorsement advances, Nike has suspended Vick’s contract as well as Reebok and Donruss has decided to suspend Vicks trading cards; Upper Deck has done the same. Rawlings ended their relationship with Vick; Air-Tran was the first to drop Vick in May. Terrorist supporting, animal rights group PETA has demanded all corporations having endorsement deals with Vick should end their relationships. There is a possibility that the IRS may want to have a long talk with Michael Vick about tax evasion.

But, Vick is not all bad. During his off time he helps underprivileged children in the Atlanta urban area, as well in his hometown of Newport News V.A. He donated thousands of dollars to his Alma mater, Virginia Tech, when the tragic shootings by the sadistic sickoSeung Hui Cho took place. Thirty-two irreplaceable students and faculty died in this onslaught. Vick has assisted families who lost their family members in this incident. Vick was scheduled to lobby at Capitol Hill for after-school program funding but, for unknown reasons, Vick did not appear; in his place his mother Brenda Vick to accepted an after school Alliance award.

The terrorist supporting organization PETA led the bloodthirsty charge to convict Michael Vick of animal cruelty. PETA has a right to express their hatred towards Michael Vick, but the hypocrisy of PETA disturbs me even more when they admit to killing animals on a yearly basis. I have a link that will describe the hypocrisy of PETA. Please look more at www.petakillsanimals.com.

Each year PETA raises nearly 30 million dollars in revenue from donations for people with the assumption these loveable animals will get the help they need. Most of the money goes to outrageous advertisements aimed at young children. Here is an example

This comic book is passed out to young children after school by the shameless members of PETA. Besides brainwashing children into becoming career criminals, PETA has also financed terrorism. Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front (ALF) are PETA’s favorite friends in the fight for animal liberation. These two organizations are on the FBI’s domestic terrorists list for arson, assault and death threats. An ALF member was convicted of arson in the Michigan State University research laboratory. PETA has financed the member in the amounts of 70,200 dollars, also PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk was named as an accomplice in the crime.

The Center for Consumer Freedom purchased an ad in The New York Times to describe PETA’s true intentions. PETA has used the Vick platform for profit through donations. The profits were used to line the pockets of PETA’s co-founder and president Ingrid Newkirk. There is no difference with PETA killing animals and Vick if you do not count the 14,392 statistical difference.

Vick has made a phenomenal impact on the field and in communities. What would make such an inspiring man to commit such heinous acts? Could it be a street thing in which a number of African Americans say that dog fighting is more of the norm? We will never know the wheels that turn into Michael Vick’s head, causing him to participate and finance dog fighting.

Animals should be treated with love and respect but we also must remember that animals are not humans and they are just animals. No dog will become a doctor, a lawyer or a billionaire tycoon oilman. In a way animals are expendable though they have a purpose on this earth like every human being. I believe it’s wrong to abuse, fight and even neuter domestic animals.

PETA and Vick are not the only people to abuses animals though. During the Watts Riots in 1964 corrupted policemen trained and used German Sheppards to attack and kill resistors if civil justice. There has been a history where man has used dogs to attack and kill other human beings. This abusing of the animals did not start with Michael Vick and it will not end with Michael Vick.
