Paul Smith Sports Information Director HUNTSVILLE, Texas --- Turnovers once again slowed a solid offensive effort by the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils (0-2), as they dropped a 48-10 decision to the No. 16 Sam Houston State Bearkats on Saturday night at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville, Texas. The Bearkats opened scoring as Rhett Bomar connected with Blake Martin on a seven-yard touchdown strike, giving SHSU a 7-0 lead with 9:54 remaining in the opening quarter. The Boll Weevils quickly responded with a 25-yard field goal by Nick Green, junior, to cap a 13-play, 58-yard drive and pull UAM to within 7-3 with 3:12 remaining in the opening quarter. SHSU quickly responded as Bomar scampered 12 yards for a touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, giving SHSU a 14-3 lead. The Boll Weevils came back on the ensuing drive as Scott Buisson, freshman, capped a nine-play, 82-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run to pull UAM to within 14-10 with 12:32 remaining in the second quarter. SHSU extended their lead to 17-10 after a 20-yard field goal by Taylor Wilkins, and took advantage of a UAM fumble on the following drive, capping a short six-play drive with a five-yard touchdown run by Chris Poullard to take a 24-10 lead going into the half. The Bearkats dominated the second half, scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter to extend their lead to 41-10, and tacked on another touchdown as TyMagic Robinson scampered for a 21-yard touchdown run with 11:27 remaining in the contest. Buisson completed 22 of 36 passes for 200 yards, while Johnny Polite, freshman, led UAM with 108 yards rushing on 23 carries. Tim Harris , junior, had 103 yards receiving on nine catches. Larry White, sophomore, led UAM with nine tackles. The Boll Weevils will return to action on Saturday, September 15,
as they travel to Ouachita Baptist University to open Gulf South
Conference play against the Tigers. Kickoff from A.U. Williams Field is
scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be carried live on KHBM-FM 93.7 in
