The University of Arkansas at Monticello gained a new Aramark Cafeteria director.

The third week of November, Stephen Kerr took over as the new UAM cafeteria director.  Kerr, who is originally from Springfield, Mo., went to culinary school at the Memphis Culinary Academy.

Kerr worked for Aramark for five years; first, he worked for two and a half years at Harding University, then for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Before that he owned his own restaurant in Germantown, Tenn.

Kerr plans to bring a whole new menu with a variety of food to the cafeteria. Kerr said he enjoys his time at UAM and Monticello.

“So far it’s going really good, just getting to know everyone on the staff and getting to know the students,” Kerr said. “Monticello is small but good.”

Kerr said he took the job promotion to further his career and to be in an environment where he could work together with a team to continue his culinary skills. Kerr also will continue the catering service that UAM has offered and as he says “step it up a notch."

Linna Jones, a student at UAM, asked Kerr about the new menu having items for diabetics.

“I talked to the new director today and he said he would start serving diabetic desserts as soon as I get him the recipes,” Jones said.

The UAM cafeteria is open until Christmas break, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Come try the new menu out.
