Staff Writer Nov. 27, with a 73-47 win over MacArthur High School, Henry Thomas won his 400th high school basketball game as a head coach. Thomas graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1982 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education and a Certification in Special Education, Health Education and Physical Education. He later earned his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M. In 20 years as a high school head coach of men’s basketball, Thomas led three teams to district championships, coached 12 district championship teams, two Final Four teams, as well as coaching nine All-State players and four McDonald’s All-Americans. He is especially proud that he has coached 18 District All-Academic players and four State All-Academic players. Thomas holds the record in Class 1A for longest district winning streak with 69, most points scored in a Final Four Game, largest crowd in a State Game and has been selected Coach of the Year 10 times. Thomas is in his third season in Lewisville High School, with stops in Texas including Miranda City, Crystal City, Calvert and Denton. Lewisville is currently ranked in the top 10 Texas’ Class 5A.
“I have enjoyed the ride, but it is the kids that keep me
going,” Thomas said. “I have been fortunate to have some
great young men willing to do what it takes to make this
program a winner.”
