Barnett Wins UAM

Barnett, after a couple of days making his fishing buddies jealous, will donate the boat back to UAM to be used in continued fund-raising efforts for athletics. “My wife, Mary Jo, and I have decided to donate the boat back to UAM,” Barnett said. “UAM provided both of us with our education and the beginning of what has been a wonderful life. We hope this gift will bless others as we have been blessed by having an educational institution in our community that will continue to grow and prosper.”
Ambassadors to Sponsor Silent Auction as United Way Fund-Raiser The auction will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1-3 p.m. Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 29, and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Nov. 30. The auction will be held in the Adams Room of Harris Hall and will include UAM logo items, a digital MP3 player, an overnight stay for two at the Trotter House bed and breakfast, jewelry, candles, Christmas decorating items, photo frames, novels and bricks for Weevil Walk around the UAM pond. All items will have a minimum bid of $5.

Holley was a member of the UAM faculty from 1967 to 2007. He served as head of the Department of Social Science, taught U.S. history and Arkansas history, and was a prolific writer. Holley authored numerous scholarly articles and two books – "The Second Great Emancipation: The Mechanical Cotton Picker, Black Migration, and How They Shaped the Modern South" by the University of Arkansas Press, and "Uncle Sam’s Farmers: The New Deal Communities in the Lower Mississippi Valley" by the University of Illinois Press. Holley served as editor of the "Drew
County Historical Journal" and was a frequent contributor to the
publication. Holley was recognized by the Arkansas Historical
Association with numerous honors, including the Walter L. Brown Award,
the Violet B. Gingles Award and the Lucille Westbrook Award. Holley is a
graduate of Louisiana Tech University and holds master’s degrees from
