Scholarship Boosts Diversity in Education

    Scholarships, to encourage greater participation by minorities in teaching, are available at the University of Arkansas at Monticello through a program funded by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, according to Dr. Peggy Doss, dean of the UAM School of Education.

   The scholarships are part of the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program which provides up to $1,500 per academic year for full-time teacher education majors.

    The program is designed to bring African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and Native American students into the teaching profession.

   To be eligible for the scholarship students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a baccalaureate degree granting institution in Arkansas, or at an accredited state-supported community college.
