Weevils Fall to No. 9 Statesmen

   The University of Arkansas at Monticello's Boll Weevils were held to164 yards of total offense as the No. 9 Delta State University Statesmen picked up a 51-14 victory over the Boll Weevils in UAM’s 2007 season finale at Willis “Convoy” Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium.

   DSU opened scoring with a 47-yard field goal by Trey Adams with 2:48 left in the opening quarter, capping a seven-play, 25-yard drive. The Statesmen extended its lead to 10-0 in the second quarter as Dedrick Wilson punched through a one-yard run to cap a four play, 16-yard drive just under a minute into the second quarter.

   The Boll Weevils answered, as freshman Scott Buisson (Metairie, La.) connected with freshman Jywin Ceasar (Marrero, La.) on a six-yard touchdown pass that pulled the Boll Weevils to within 10-7 with 8:59 remaining in the quarter.

   The Statesmen then took over, tacking on another 14 points before halftime to take a 24-7 lead into intermission, and scoring the first 28 points of the third quarter to take a 51-7 lead before freshman Vincent Jackson (Fordyce) picked up a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.

   Buisson completed 13 of 37 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions. Freshman Johnny Polite (McGehee) led UAM with 45 rushing yards on 22 carries, while junior Larry White (Atlanta, Ga.) led UAM with 13 tackles.
