Campus Sets Rules for Wandering Weevil Wheels

Since the Wandering Weevil Wheels were released this fall on campus, Public Safety added the responsibility of keeping an eye on the bikes as well as making sure the rules are followed when riding them.

According to officer John Kidwell the rules for ridding the bikes on the highway are the same as a car.

Other rules include: ride with the traffic, pedestrians have the right away in the cross walks, stop at all stop signs, and use proper hand signals. The bikes are allowed to be ridden on the sidewalks, unless it becomes a problem.

“We are all for ridding the bikes; it should help on traffic issues," Kidwell said.  “It’s an experiment for us as well.”

Duck Blind

Allen Ashcraft of Dumas (second from right), a welding student at the UAM College of Technology-McGehee, recently constructed this duck blind as part of a welding class at the McGehee campus.

The blind, which will hold up to seven hunters, measured 13 feet by 5 feet and was fabricated using a blue print created in the welding class. Ashcraft and his grandfather plan to camouflage the metal blind and use it for duck hunting near Dumas.

Pictured from left are Sam Thompson, welding instructor, and students Josh Wright of Lake Village, Ashcraft and Kedrick Mitchell of Montrose.
