With a new coach in tow as well as a new team, the Cotton Blossoms
have a
promising season ahead.
With four returning and seven incoming players, the team is
relatively new.
But it seems to be working out all right for them.
“We all get along well and are all hard workers,” said first-year post
Sarah Ward.
In anticipation of the up and coming season, the players workout
around two
hours a day, six days a week. They also practice almost everyday,
normally in the
afternoons after all the girls have gotten out of their classes. Also,
if the girls’ grades are down, they have to spend quite a few hours in
study hall each week.
Right now, the focus is on preparing the team to achieve team
cohesiveness. They’re in the process of putting the offensive and
defensive plays into action and getting ready for the season to begin.
The team successfully hosted the Halloween Bash on Halloween night,
which was an intrasquad scrimmage where the white team beat the green
team with a score of 40-30. Hopefully this is a preview of what we can
expect to see through out the season.
Probably one of the toughest teams to beat this year is going to be
Henderson
State University. What some people may not know is that new head coach
Chris Ratcliff coached at HSU before coming to UAM. Ratcliff is looking
forward to playing HSU because he wants to play the best out there and
since he coached for them he has seen how excellent they are.

“I think we’re going to do well,” Ratcliff said. "We’re right where
I want us to be and I expect the team to make it to conference.
