Sheena Garrard Staff Writer A religious group on campus keeps students coming back for more Christian advice. The U.N.I.T.Y. religious group chooses to educate more students on how to become productive Christians in life. The organization U.N.I.T.Y stands for understanding the needs and inspiration of today’s youth. This religious organization tries to reach out to the community with its annual food and clothes giveaway. The Pastor Branch, organization spiritual advisor, gives students different advice on everyday life obstacles that they may face in life. This religious group tries to encourage and motivate students to have strong Christian beliefs. Jordan Thompson, president, said, “The main goal this semester is to get more students involved and also have more activities for group members to participate in.” This year some of the activities include bowling, movie night and pizza night. The laws of the organization say U.N.I.T.Y started out as a way to reach out to students with brotherhood and sisterhood through Christ, gather with others to the share the nature of God and also achieve and enlist for others the service of God. The organization campus advisor Alethea Dallas said, “The choir gives spiritual advice with their songs.” The choir does concerts throughout the semester to get the word of God out in the community and to display the spiritual brother and sister. The choir goes to different churches and other events to spread the word of God. The choir has an open membership for all students. U.N.I.T.Y meets every Tuesday at the MCB in classroom 202. The meetings will consist of any one who’s part of the student body. The organization membership is open to anyone and will not discriminate because of race, color, religion, age, handicap, origin or sex. If anyone chooses to join the organization, the membership fees are $10 a semester. The dues must be paid by the third meeting of the semester or a payment plan can be set up.
Karen Hayes, a senior, said, “The dues are worth it because they
go towards the activities for the month.”
