Paul Smith
Sports Information Director

JONESBORO --- The University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms’ basketball season got off to a rocky start, as the Cotton Blossoms dropped a 74-46 decision to Arkansas State in the two teams’ exhibition opener on Thursday at the ASU Convocation Center.

The Lady Indians opened the game on a 12-4 run and never looked back, pushing ahead to a 36-13 halftime lead. UAM shot 13.3 percent on 4-of-30 shooting in the first half.

In the opening minutes of the second half, the Lady Indians pushed ahead by as many as 30 (46-16), but the Blossoms fought back, narrowing the ASU lead to 19 (53-34) with 9:31 remaining. However, ASU took charge once again extending their lead to as many as 31 en route to the victory.

Shenai Limbrick (Sr., Houston, Texas) led the Cotton Blossoms with 11 points off the bench. Almeli da Silva (Sr., Sao Paolo, Brazil) was UAM’s leading rebounder with nine.

UAM shot 23.4 percent from the floor for the game, but connected at a 42.9 percent clip from three-point range in the second half.

The Cotton Blossoms open regular season play on Friday, Nov. 17, as they face Montevallo on day one of the Montevallo Classic in Montevallo, Ala. A 4 p.m. tip-off is scheduled.
