Author from Southeast Arkansas to
speak on campus
Janis Kearney grew up in Gould, Arkansas. Gould is 40 miles
northeast of Monticello, in Lincoln County. In her book, “Cotton
Field of Dreams,” Kearney describes her families’ efforts to make a
living farming cotton, to surmount prejudice and to conquer poverty.
From 1995 to 2001, Kearney served as President Clinton’s Personal
Diarist, documenting the daily activities of the presidency. To read

collections. The Friends of the Southeast Arkansas Regional Public
Library is sponsoring a lecture by Kearney to be held Wednesday,
Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Fine
Arts Center. The public is invited.
Military Science Department
displays exhibit in Library
An exhibit on the history of the military on campus, with an
emphasis on the newly reinstated ROTC program, is on display in the
library until October 20.
UAM alumni authors on display in
the library
Annette Vincent, Library Supervisor, prepared a display featuring
six former UAM students who have gone on to become published
authors. The display will run from Oct. 21 to the end of the month.
Library Celebrates Arkansas
Archives Week with Homecoming Exhibit
The Arkansas History Commission has designated Oct. 22 to 28 as
Arkansas Archives Week. To celebrate this occasion, the library has
prepared a display on the traditions at UAM, including the Weevil,
the Big Oak, the Old Bell and the 2006 inductees of the UAM Sports
Hall of Fame. Drop by the library to learn more about Arkansas
Archives Week and the history of UAM. The library will soon be
unveiling a new online exhibit titled, “Weevil Pond: A UAM
Tradition.”
