October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month Through Oct. 13 -University of Arkansas at Monticello's nursing students will attend the ARSNA convention held in Hot Springs, accompanied by Dr. Larry Eustace, division of nursing chair and professor, and Pamela Gourner, SNA sponsor. Through Oct. 14 - Agriculture students participate in the soil judging contest at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Through Oct. 28 – “Terry Williams: Wildlife Artist” will be on exhibit in the Library and Technology Center Gallery. A reception will be held Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. for Williams, a UAM alumnus. Through Oct. 28 – “Selections from the Spencer Collection” will be exhibited in the Fine Arts Center’s Spencer Gallery Oct. 12 - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Board of Visitors will meet at 4 p.m. in the Spencer Gallery of the UAM Fine Arts Center. Oct. 12 - A three-hour hands-on introductory workshop on "Creating Your Own Web Design" will be held in the IT lab of Sorrells Hall from 1-4 p.m. Faculty and students are eligible to attend at no charge subject to space availability. Oct. 12 - The brothers of the Kappa Alpha Order present "The Dukes of Hazzard - Return of the General Lee" party at the KA place (downtown, next to Bone's Auto Parts) from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. If you dress as a cast member of the "Dukes of Hazzard," admission costs $3; everyone else pays $5. Oct. 14-15 - UAM hosts the Weevil Wars debate tournament. This free event is open to the public. Oct. 16-22 - National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness/Red Ribbon Week Oct. 16 - Deadline to enter the Ambassadors Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Pick up an entry form in the Admissions office on the first floor of Harris Hall. A DECORATED PUMPKIN (not carved) must be brought to the Office of Admissions by noon on Oct. 18. When decorating, please remember all pumpkins will be donated to an area children's home. Pumpkins will be judged on idea, creativity, neatness and originality. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place winners. Any recognized campus organization can enter. Only one entry per organization. No entry fee is required. Oct. 19- The Medical Science Club will have Tom South, director of Admission at UAMS, speak Thursday at 12:40 p.m. in room B19 of the Science Center. All students planning on attending medical school should attend. Oct. 19-21 - The Rodeo Team will participate in Rodeo Competition at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala Congratulations to Tina Adams for winning the 3rd annual Sigma Apollo. Congratulations to Dreyon Gray, Jeremy Tucker, Eric Haynie and Ryan Shepard for winning the Sigma 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The campus elected the following ladies to the 2006 Homecoming Court: Christean Bell, Vicky Brown, Karen Dodd, LaTish Edwards, Adelia Hill, Amy Hoang, Ana Hunt, Janay Kolen, Brittany Mathews, Aissa Roflo, Special Sanders and Brittany Washington. The UAM football team chose Feonda Devall as the 2006 football sweetheart.

Oil Painting Class - Come join a fun and challenging experience where you will learn the very basics of oil painting. You will create still life paintings, nature prints, and other fun projects that you can take home and display on your wall. Students will also have the opportunity to display their project(s) during an art exhibit in December to be held at the UAM College of Technology – McGehee. Mary Wells will teach the class Oct. 19-Dec. 14 on Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. at the Old Watson School in Watson, Ark. A $60 tuition fee and $40 in supplies will cover the costs of the course. Registration will be held the first night of class and consists of a simple one-page personal data sheet. The Monticello PEO Chapter offers a $500 one semester scholarship to a female graduate of Drew Central or Monticello High. Additional requirements include completion of at least 24 credit hours and having a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall. Upon completion, these should be returned to Admissions by Nov.1 for spring consideration. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation awards 80 merit-based $5,000 scholarships each year to outstanding college students who intend to pursue careers related to the environment, or who intend to pursue careers in Native American health care or tribal public policy and are Native American or Alaska Native. Empty the Trash - Old e-mails placed in the “Deleted Items” folder remain on the university server until the folder is emptied, which may slow the operation of your computer. Right click your mouse on the “Deleted Items” folder and choose empty “Deleted Items” folder. This will permanently remove the old and unwanted emails from the e-mail system. New McGehee Homepage - Sharon Cantrell and UAM Webmaster Tina Freeman spent months designing a new Web page for the McGehee campus.
