The University of Arkansas at Monticello marching band has been selected as
the featured college band to perform exhibitions at three of the largest high school marching contests in Arkansas and Texas.

The 135-piece UAM band will perform at the Four States Marching Contest at Grim Stadium in Texarkana, Tex., on October 7 at 4 p.m. The Four States competition will feature 25 top high school bands from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The UAM band will also perform at the Arkansas Region 4 Marching Contest in El Dorado on October 24 and the Texas UIL Region 4 Marching Contest in Mount Pleasant, Tex., on October 25. The Arkansas Region 4 contest will feature every high school band from the region while the Texas competition will include the AAA and AAAA bands in that region.

UAM will host its own marching contest October 10 when 18 Arkansas bands and one Texas band gather for the UAM/Kappa Kappa Psi Marching Contest at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium. The competition begins at 4 p.m. The UAM band will perform at 8 p.m. prior to the awards ceremony.
According to Gary Meggs, director of bands, the UAM marching band will perform for over 4,000 band students and 15,000 spectators at the combined competitions.

For more information, contact Meggs at (870) 460-1060.
