Inactive Students to Lose E-mail Access

Marcus Roberts
Staff Writer

Students no longer enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will have their e-mail accounts disabled on Oct. 2. Currently enrolled and graduate student accounts stay active.

The UAM e-mail system currently runs close to its maximum capacity. Plane to clean up the system started at the very beginning but due to workload constraints system clearing could not take place until now.

The UAM e-mail system currently supports nearly 7,000 accounts, compared to the current enrollment of almost 3,200 students that makes approximately 3,800 unused accounts.

“We have got to clean up the server”, Ross said, “We can’t support that many accounts.”

According to director of Information Technology, Bobby Hoyle, the benefits of cleaning up the servers include a more efficient e-mail system, less chance of losing data and reduced strain on the servers.

“We have to use the resources the university gives us in a way that benefits everybody involved,” Hoyle said.

Hoyle said he would like to be able to support an alumni e-mail system but with the current resources that is not practical.

Students with questions about the e-mail system should direct them to Anissa Ross by phone at (870)-460-1037 or by e-mail at ross@uamont.edu.
