Campus Police Log

Sept. 8

I drove around the campus three times and went back to Bankston Hall. As I got to the courtyard area, I observed a student walking towards his truck. He was upset and cussing. It appeared as if there was a problem with the group of students, who were sitting on the steps. The student got in his truck and drove off. I approached the students and asked what was going on and what the student was upset about. As a witness started to provide me with some information, the student drove back up in the parking lot. I approached him and told him I needed to speak with him. He stated he did not want to speak to me and that eh was dropping out of school and out of football and going home. He stated that his stuff was stolen, his room was trashed, and that another student broke into his room and hit him. At 2001 hours, three officers from MPD arrived to assist, secure verbal witness statements and crowd control.

Sept. 19

Responded to a fight call at Sorrels. I had caller on the phone directing me to a male subject leaving from the north area that was involved in the fight. I stopped the student and made him return to Sorrells with me and find out what happened. A female was also involved in the fight. Another officer stayed with the male while I talked with the female and other witnesses. She told me that the male student and herself were arguing about using a room in Sorrells and it got heated and she slapped him in the face. According to her, he hit her and she fell to the floor causing a bump on the top of her head and possible other injuries. The other officer asked the male if he had been drinking because of an odor of intoxicants she could smell on him. He told her no and agreed to take a portable breath test. Monticello PD was called for test and did not have working machine. Male was then taken to CDF for BAC test to determine alcohol content if any in his blood. He refused to take test and was arrested for public intoxication, refusal to take test and disorderly conduct. He was then released with signature and returned to Sorrels to pick up items and returned to his dorm. I went inside to talk with a professor who was called about the incident and had arrived on campus just shore before male was taken to CDF. The female was asked if she needed medical attention which she declined several times by myself. and the other officer. I asked if either want to press battery charges on the other and both declined. Female will also have disorderly conduct charge filed in the morning for her role in event.

Sept. 22

Out at two car accident in front of the Administration building. Escorted driver of vehicle one to the nurses office to be checked out. Returned the driver to Administration building to meet with her dad.

Notified that there is a woman stranded at the intersection of 425 South and University with her hood up. Myself and another officer went to the scene and found to non-UAM students attempting to jumpstart the disabled vehicle. Determined to the best of my ability that the Alternator is inoperative and convinced the lady to park the vehicle in the Crackerbox parking lot and call someone to come pick her up.

Noticed on North end of Fine Arts Center when you enter the lower door and go down the stairs the door to the storage area is broken. The door was bent in half and broken off its hinges.

Sept. 23

Call from a concerned parent in reference to a theft that happened at Bankston Hall. In the office for a short time to enter a theft report.

Monticello P.D. asked if I would check Cracker Box South, the alarm was not set and the worker though someone might be in the store. Building clear.

Sept. 24

Smoke detector at Royer Hall went off. Then shut itself off. Told the resident that if it goes off again to contact Public Safety and we will determine whether or not to call maintenance.

A call in reference to a stolen cell phone.

Student advised that someone at Bankston stole his car keys, a trunk and ignition key plus a keyless entry remote on the keychain. He was concerned that someone would possibly break into his vehicle while parked at Bankston and asked if he could part Public Safety until his keys were located.
