Blossoms Tame Lady Tigers

Will Collins
Sports Editor

The Cotton Blossom volleyball squad swept the Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tigers Thursday night at the Steelman Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 363.

The Blossoms attack was led by senior Katherine Taju’s game high 14 kills. Along beside Taju was senior Amanda Sayre of Del City, Okla., junior transfer Kemeshia Melton of Grapevine, Texas, and Brentwood, Tenn., first-year player Nicole Ferguson, who all posted 10 kills each on the night. Ferguson had the highest average of .625 coming off of 16 attempts.

Of the team’s 50 total kills, sophomore Maegan Martin assisted 38 of them. Amie Kronk of San Antonio, Texas, had a game-high 17 digs and had two kills on two attempts.

The Cotton Blossoms move to 2-2 in conference play and to 10-6 overall. The win puts them in a tie with Christian Brothers for third place.

The Cotton Blossoms do not play again for more than a week. They won’t be back in action until they travel to Memphis to take on the Lady Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University. The game is set for Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
