Staff Writer The newly formed Weevil Film Society, formed by student Amanda Haught and Professor Allen Redmon, plans to show films in a theater style setting in the very near future. After the film, the Film Society opens the floor to discussion. The discussion session promotes thoughtful analysis of the film and adds an element of contemplation to otherwise straight forward films. “I feel that movies are meant to initiate conversation,” Redmon said. Redmon said he hopes the film society will become a place where people can discuss the values and ideologies present in popular films and hopes to give exposure to other, lesser known, films. In addition to discussions, the Film Society encourages the audience to suggest films the club might use in later showings. Already proposed films run the gamut from comedy, to drama, to action and all points in between. As well as providing a springboard to thoughtful discussions the Film Society’s showings also offer a low cost, or no cost, night out for students. “I think it’s a good idea,” first-year
student Shay Hood said. “I would definitely come.” For additional information about the film society, contact Allen Redmon by e-mail at redmon@uamont.edu or by phone at (870) 460-1778.
