"Building to the Future at the Drew County Fair" provides this year's theme for the 63rd annual Drew County Fair and Livestock Exposition. The fair will be held Sept. 16-23.

This year’s fair hosts a variety of topics for everyone to enjoy. There will be contests including beauty pageants, dog shows, youth talent shows, livestock and forage, swine, horses, rabbits, poultry, beef cattle, horse exhibit, goats, sheep, potted plants, education, woodworking, photography, art, handicraft, needlework, floral arrangements, crochet-knitting-tatting, home furnishings, ceramics, quilted items, canned foods, clothing, food preparation, cut flowers, horticulture, 4-H special exhibits and field crops.

Destiney Higgins, a first-year student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, said she believes the parade was better than many she had seen before.  She also said the fair was smaller than before, but still a great fair.

“It is a good change for not having anything to do in this town. It is fun and creates the family friendly environment that I enjoy,” Higgins said.

Higgins works on a budget like many students and said it was more cost effective to purchase the wristbands than pay $1 a ticket because many of the rides at the fair cost 4 or more tickets.  Parking was in her favor at only $2.
