More students are attending the University of Arkansas at Monticello this fall than at any time in school history, according to the preliminary fall census figures released today by the UAM registrar's office. UAM's total enrollment for the fall semester is 3,186, a 7.6 percent increase over last year's record enrollment of 2,959. The 2006 figures include 3,070 undergraduate students and 116 graduate students. A campus-by-campus breakdown shows 2,831 students enrolled in courses at the Monticello campus, 197 students at the UAM College of Technology-Crossett, and an additional 341 students at the UAM College of Technology-McGehee. Some students are enrolled in classes at both the Monticello campus and the Colleges of Technology, bringing the duplicated headcount to 3,369. "This is a historic moment for the university and a landmark achievement for our faculty and staff who have worked so hard in recruitment and retention," said UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter. "I especially want to commend Mary Whiting, our director of admissions, and her staff for the long hours and hard work necessary to recruit students in what is becoming an increasingly competitive market." UAM has experienced steady growth
over the past four years, with 2,875 students in
2003, 2,942 in 2004 and 2,959 in 2005.
"This is an encouraging trend," said Lassiter. "I am confident that we can build on this success and experience continued growth in the next decade." Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ŠThe Voice 2006 Revised 09/20/2006 11:05:03 PM— http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_3/enrollment.htm |
