Nancy Stephan Staff Writer We all look forward to summer break, but one fact remains: we must deal with the reality of finals before we enjoy the relaxation and recreation that the end of the semester offers. I find myself really beginning to panic when the last two weeks of the semester draw near and so many projects are due all at once, in addition to exams and presentations. All students seem to handle stress differently. During my four years at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, I’ve observed many types of stress relief, some of which I have entertained, and some not. Personally, I find partying and hanging out with friends a real distraction, which more often leads to fatigue and restlessness in addition to a waste of valuable time. I prefer to go for a long, leisurely walk, listen to the sounds of nature and feel the calming effects of an afternoon breeze. Some students find release in music, jogging or taking short naps (power naps) when trying to avoid stress that accompanies hours of endless studying. Some find it beneficial to study with a buddy or in a group. My advice … take it all in stride. Get plenty of rest. Eat properly and try not to cram all your studying into one time slot. Break it up into shorter periods. Whatever your study habits may be, realize all
you can do is study hard and do your best. Hopefully your grades will
reflect your efforts. Get plenty of sleep, eat hearty and study hard.
Good luck on your finals! ŠThe Voice 2007 Revised 01/13/2008 03:19:11 PM — http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_24/stress-comm.htm |
