It’s time to get the community involved in addressing the teacher shortage in southeast Arkansas. That was the consensus of a recent meeting of Monticello business, education and civic leaders, as well as faculty from the School of Education. Meeting in the John F. Gibson University Center, the group heard a presentation on teacher recruitment from Vincent Watkins from the Watkins Group of Atlanta, Ga. “We wanted to get the community involved in what is becoming a critical issue for Monticello and southeast Arkansas,” said Peggy Doss, dean of the School of Education. “Recruiting and retaining qualified teachers in an increasingly competitive job market is becoming more and more challenging. We, as a community, need to call on all our resources and explore all of our options in meeting this challenge.” The meeting was hosted by Mary Jo Barnett,
director of the UAM Educational Renewal Zone project in partnership with
the Arkansas Department of Education. Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ŠThe Voice 2007 Revised 10/29/2007 06:23:42 PM — http://www.uamont.edu/organizations/thevoice/4_24/edmeet.htm |
