Michael Ford Editor-in-Chief The Assembly held its final meeting of the academic year April 25 in the Memorial Classroom Building Auditorium. The Assembly heard reports from various committees and elected officers for 2007-08. A discussion on salaries and a new policy on them called KOOPA took center stage at the meeting. Reporting for the Salary Study Committee, John Annulis, the dean of mathematical and natural sciences, attempted to explain the policy to a skeptical audience. “Salaries won’t be cut, but you can’t go to the bank with that,” Annulis said. “You’ll have to talk to Ray or Lassiter to be sure.” Chancellor Jack Lassiter assured everyone their salary would not be reduced as a result of the new plan. Clay Brown, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, introduced the 2007-08 Student Government Association officers: President Landon Grimes, Vice President Christopher Allen, Secretary Ben Higginbotham and Treasurer Billy Huggins. Brown also announced the arrival of the School Violence Resource Center, a document that spells out what the campus should do in a crisis. Brown said the information would be available online as well as in hard copy. Provost David Ray made a couple of administrative reports including an announcement of the upcoming commencement on May 11, which 441 students will be eligible for. The provost also announced that The New York Times will be coming to campus fall 2007. He said 300 issues a day would be available for faculty to use for various reasons. Library Director Sandra Campbell discussed a new electronic database in the library that should help counter the rising costs of scholarly journals. “We’ve already unveiled it to the
Library Committee,” she said. “We will announce it to the university
soon.” Reporting for the Curriculum & Standards Committee, Marsha Clayton, professor of business, announced the passing of 10 proposals. Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ŠThe Voice 2007 Revised 01/13/2008 03:25:40 PM — http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_24/assembly.htm |
