Rodeo Team Competes in Harrison

Kevin Sims
Sports Editor

The University of Arkansas-Monticello rodeo team competed at the North Arkansas Rodeo April 5-7 in Harrison. The men’s team finished in seventh place while the woman’s team finished in fourth.

Lana Chastain won the women’s all-around competition with a score of 180. She finished second in the Breakaway Roping competition with a time of seven seconds and seventh in Goat Tying with a time of 20.1 seconds.

Billy Brunson scored points in the Team Roping as a header with a time of 20.0 seconds.  He finished third in the competition.

In the Ozark Region, UAM’s men team is currently holding the sixth spot in the standings.  The woman’s team holds third and is less than 350 points out of second place, which would give them a birth in nationals.

Jared Hall is in fourth place in Steer Wrestling after the last competition and needs to make up 150 points to make nationals in the event.

Brunson leads the Team Roping Header event by 300 points, and Megan Fisher is second in Goat Tying with 650 points, 70 points ahead of third place.

The rodeo team competed in a rodeo hosted by University of Tennessee at Martin on the weekend of April 12.
