Sports Information Director MONTICELLO (April 7) - Third-ranked Ouachita Baptist University claimed a 9-4 victory over the University of Arkansas at Monticello's Boll Weevils (4-33, 2-10 GSC) to claim a series sweep over the Weevils Saturday at Weevil Field. The Tigers scored a single run in the first and two runs in the second inning to pull ahead 3-0 before the Weevils were able to get on the board in the fifth inning, as Matt Gardner (Fr., West Monroe, La.) hit a solo homer to pull UAM to within 3-1. OBU tacked on three runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-1, but the Weevils were able to narrow the gap to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh as Matt Whatley (Jr., Garland, Texas) led off with a solo homer. However, OBU would answer in the top of the eighth as Chance Beasley belted a two-run homer to give the Tigers an 8-2 lead. The Weevils pulled to within 8-4 after an RBI grounder by Josh Mace (Sr., Nelson, B.C.) and an RBI single by Whatley, but the Tigers tacked on another run in the ninth to seal the victory. Colter Zoch (Jr., La Grange, Texas) went the distance for the Weevils and took the loss after giving up nine earned runs in nine innings, allowing 15 hits, four walks and fanning seven. Whatley was the only Weevil with two hits. The Weevils returned to action Saturday, April 14, traveling to Cleveland, Miss. for a three-game Gulf South Conference series with Delta State University. Saturday’s first pitch from Ferriss Field was set for 3 p.m. WEEVILS SWEPT BY OUACHITA BAPTIST MONTICELLO (April 6) - The third-ranked Ouachita Baptist University Tigers (37-3, 10-1 GSC) banged out 38 hits over the first two games against the University of Arkansas at Monticello's Boll Weevils (4-32, 2-9 GSC) to capture a doubleheader sweep over the Weevils, winning the opener 16-0 and the finale 11-2. OBU’s Keith Barrett held UAM to just two hits over seven innings of work, fanning three UAM batters. Meanwhile, the Tigers chased UAM starter David Nix (Fr., Camden) after four-third innings of work and seven runs, all earned, on nine hits and five walks. OBU led 3-0 after the second inning and exploded in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring 12 runs to push their lead to 15-0, tacking on the 16th run in the top of the seventh. In the second game, OBU got on the board first with a four run second inning, and extended their lead to 5-0 with a single run in the fifth. UAM broke through in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff homer by Craig Caldwell (Fr., West Monroe, La.) to pull to within 5-1. However, the Tigers responded in the top of the sixth with six runs to extend their lead to 11-1, chasing UAM starter Ross Ashley (Jr., El Reno, Okla.) after five and one-third innings and eight runs, all earned on 12 hits and five walks. The Weevils added another run in the seventh with an RBI single by Haley Hougen (Sr., Wylie, Texas), pulling to within 11-2, but the deficit was too much for the Weevils to overcome and OBU held on for the victory. Caldwell picked up two hits in the loss, while Tyler Price (So., Maurice, La.) tossed one and two-third innings of scoreless relief. UAM and OBU concluded their three-game series with
