Students and faculty served the community on Weevil Serve Day held Tuesday, April 3 at the Baptist Children’s Home from 3 - 6 p.m. The volunteers who helped with the community project included several fraternities and sororities, the biology club, some faculty and the Christian organizations. Director of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry Dave Johnston said he received a good response from the campus. “It was a huge success. I am very pleased with the response from campus, the chancellor and faculty,” Johnston said. The participants worked around the Children’s Home and the duplexes weed eating, mulching flower beds, mowing the grass, painting, cutting up a tree, raking leaves, cleaning gutters and general landscaping. Johnston said the Children’s Home sent a list of work that needed to be done. “We were very organized. We had each duplex give us a list of what needed to be done and on Monday, we surveyed what we had to do for each project,” Johnston said. Sophomore Jenna Roy, worker for Weevil Serve Day, said she enjoyed working and helping out the community. “I really enjoyed it. I think every one had a great time,” Roy said. “It was great working together and visiting with each other.” Volunteers collected over 200 hours in community
service in one afternoon. Any club or organization interested in
