Staff Writer The Baptist Collegiate Ministry on the University of Arkansas-Monticello campus hosted Rez Week the week prior to Easter Sunday. The fourth annual event’s purpose was to start conversation on campus of Christ Jesus and to celebrate Easter. BCM and Women’s Ministry Leader Brandi Johnston said, “Rez (is) short for resurrection, that Christ conquered death and rose again.” The BCM, Missionary Baptist Student Foundation and Wesley Foundation came together collectively to reach campus students with the story of Jesus Christ. The events began Monday with burgers and a movie night in front of the John F. Gibson University Center at 5:30 p.m. They served burgers, chips and cookies and watched the “Truman Show” in the UC Green Room. Freshman Scott Grubb said, “(I) really enjoyed the burgers and the great weather.” Tuesday, Weevil Serve Day took place at the Arkansas Baptist Home for children. The services took place from 3-6 p.m. People painted, cleaned up yards and helped the other workers. “We really enjoyed all the help from everyone around campus,” MBSF Leader Rob Leonard said. “The job was a big success.” Beginning at noon Wednesday, students could eat lunch for just $2 at the Rez Picnic. They served barbecue pork, baked beans, potato salad and chocolate cake. Student Kyle Haywood said he really liked the cheap meal and the good desserts. A campus-wide egg hunt took place Thursday. The group stuffed over 4,800 eggs with candy, memory verses and an announcement about the last event of Rez Week - a concert by Sean Michael. The concert, which began at 7 p.m., was free of charge. According to Johnston, the event allowed students to worship Jesus Christ together and share what Christ had done in their lives.
The BCM also held an I-pod mini giveaway on the last day of Rez
Week between 9-11 p.m. Students who attended the Thursday night service
were eligible to win the prize.
