Monticello Police Arrest Student

John Cruce
Staff Writer

The Monticello Police Department arrested a student for filing a false police report.

The report filed Feb. 12 claimed that a 30-year-old male from Monticello, kidnapped, battered and raped Kandy Looker, an 18-year-old student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

The male was in the Drew County Detention Facility when Looker brought a sworn statement to the MPD Criminal Investigator Larry Smith stating that the claims against him were not true.

Smith said she was arrested for filing a false police report, which is a class D felony. He also said they released the male from jail.

According to Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Adam McKee, a class D felony is punishable by up to six years in a state penitentiary.
