Sports Information Director BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The Gulf South Conference has tabbed University of Arkansas at Monticello's catcher Becca Tipton (Fr., Dermott, Ark.) as the Gulf South Conference-West Division Player of the Week, for the week ending April 25. The award is Tipton’s second of the season, and marks the fifth time in six weeks that a UAM player has earned player of the week honors. Tipton had another huge week for the Cotton Blossoms, hitting .391 and leading UAM to a 4-2 record against GSC-West opposition. The freshman hit for power, connecting for six extra-base hits including a home run in a 10-2 win over Christian Brothers. “Becca has most definitely been a consistent hitter
for us all season,” Cotton Blossoms head coach Alvy Early
said. “She has
continued to perform at a high level through the start of conference
play, and we hope she will continue to play well for us as we approach
the most crucial parts of our schedule.” The Cotton Blossoms will return to action Monday, April 4, as they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a non-conference doubleheader at Blossoms Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ŠThe Voice 2007 Revised 01/13/2008 03:22:06 PM — http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_21/tipton.htm |
