Blossoms Down Mississippi Valley State

Paul Smith
Sports Information Director

Kate Brady (Jr., Longview, Texas) combined with Alison North (Fr., Marion, La.) to fire a two-hit shutout and lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms (12-16) to a 7-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday at Blossoms Field.

The Blossoms opened scoring in the bottom of the third inning as Becca Tipton (Fr., Dermott) hit an RBI single, giving the Cotton Blossoms a 1-0 lead. UAM gave Brady and North some insurance in the bottom of the fifth, as Sarah Reed (Sr., McKinney, Texas) swatted an RBI double, Lauren Brooks (Jr., West Monroe, La.) added a two-run single, Brady and Joleah Oxner (Sr., Monticello) added RBI singles, and Gemma Gibson (Jr., Dodd City, Texas) scored on an error to put the Cotton Blossoms’ lead at 7-0.

Brady picked up the win after going four complete innings, allowing one hit and fanning two. North picked up her first career save after three innings of one-hit relief, fanning three. Brooks, Reed, and Brady all had two hits in the victory.

The Cotton Blossoms will return to action on Monday, April 4, as they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a non-conference doubleheader at Blossoms Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
