Malco Theaters Inc. is pleased to announce the end of the 2007 Variety Club Children’s Charities annual fundraiser “National Gold Heart Campaign.”

This year’s campaign raised over $13,000 for various children’s organizations throughout the Mid South, including the Variety Club Tent 20 Mobility Program. Malco Theaters located outside of Memphis, Tenn., raised funds for LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, Angel Ranch (Oxford, Miss.), Shriners International (Blytheville, Ark.), Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Cheri Care (Owensboro, Ky.), Kenny Rogers Children’s Center (Sikeston, Mo.) and the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital (Mississippi).

The annual national campaign has the support of top motion picture distributors, entertainment companies and over 1,500 theaters worldwide. This unique fundraising program centers around the sale of a Gold Heart Pin, a symbol of love and hope, and The Variety Club, one of the oldest and largest children’s charities in the world.

The Variety Club is an organization that is devoted to helping underprivileged and physically challenged children. Malco Theaters is excited to support such a wonderful organization that makes a difference in a child’s life every day. Throughout the month of February, moviegoers were able to purchase the collectible Eragon series Gold Heart pins for just $2 each at any local Malco Theater.

The Variety Club of Memphis-Tent 20 was chartered Sept. 30, 1938 by a group of showmen lead by M.A. Lightman, Sr., founder of Malco Theaters. Mother’s Milk Bank became the first charity and was credited with saving the lives of many babies whose mothers were unable to supply them with proper nourishment. An International Award was presented to Tent 20 in Memphis for this project.

Since that time, The Variety Club of Memphis has raised millions of dollars for over 100 Mid-South children’s charities. Tent 20’s primary goal is to raise the money so desperately needed to provide services, medical help and/or equipment to improve the quality of life for special kids. The organization consists of a paid membership of 450 area business professionals that donate their time and efforts to children in need through monthly fundraisers, and they are an excellent example of people that get involved in their community.

Malco Theaters is the nation's 18th largest theater circuit, operating 35 sites with over 300 screens in five mid-southern states. Headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., Malco Theaters is a fourth generation company that has remained family-owned and operated for more than eight decades.
