Justin Anders of Warren is the top music student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Anders was recently chosen to receive the Janice A. Taylor Music Award, presented annually to UAM’s outstanding student musician as selected by the music faculty. Anders is the son of Steve and Nancy Anders of Warren and the grandson of Clarence Thomason of Warren and Janet Anders of Jersey. Anders has excelled as a saxophonist in UAM’s top jazz band and symphonic band. For the past two years, he has served as the field commander for the UAM Marching Band. He was also selected as a member of the 2006 Arkansas Intercollegiate Band. Anders is president of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity, and a member of Alpha Chi national collegiate honor society. He was the recipient of the Daniel and Charlotte Hornaday Music Excellence Endowed Scholarship in 2005-2006 and the Marjorie Chamberlin Endowed Scholarship in 2006-2007.
The Janice A. Taylor Music Award was established in November 2000 by
the UAM Division of Music to honor Taylor for her long-term patronage of
the arts. Taylor was appointed to the Arkansas Arts Council by
then-Governor Bill Clinton and served two terms, working to bring events
and other resources to southeast Arkansas. She was appointed to a third
term by Governor Jim Guy Tucker. She was a member of the SEARK Concert
Association’s board of directors for 25 years. Taylor currently resides
in Little Rock where she is a docent at the William J. Clinton
Presidential Center.
