Media Services The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Monticello hosted the 29th annual Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional contest Feb. 24. One hundred and eighty-one students representing nine area schools participated in the contest. The winners of the various events were: Algebra I: First – Haley Phillips of Rison Second – Seth Cornish of Warren Middle School Third – J. R. England of Rison Algebra II: First – Chad Binns of Star City Second – Camisha Johnson of Drew Central Third – Robert Whittemore of Warren Geometry: First – Abbie Little of Warren Second – Andrew Shirley of Dewitt Third – Blake Burns of Warren Trig/Pre-Calculus: First – Nathaniel Lamb of Abiding Faith Christian School of Crossett Second – Rico Rainey of Rison Third – Bridgett Green of Rison Calculus: First – Deric Nix of Rison Second – Mac Holderfield of Rison Third – Mink Ngaoprateeptam of Rison
Winners of the regional competition are eligible to compete in the
state contest April 28 at the University of Central Arkansas. At the
state level, first place winners of the Algebra I and Geometry exams
will receive a graphing calculator. First, second and third place
winners of the Algebra II, Trig/Pre-Calculus, and Calculus exams will be
awarded cash scholarships in the amounts of $500, $300 and $200,
respectively.
