I've Been to 'London' and It Was Exceptional

London - stars Chris Evans, Jessica Biel and Jason Stratham

"London" is a multifaceted story of a man whose world shatters to pieces after his girlfriend of two years leaves him.

Though they've been broken up for six months, Syd (Chris Evans) is unable to get over London (Jessica Biel). When he receives a phone call informing him of London's expected departure, he falls into a drug-fueled stupor. He learns of a going-away party being thrown for her and decides to crash the party with his drug dealer Bateman (Jason Stratham) in tow.

After crashing the party, Syd and Bateman head to the bathroom and snort more coke than Whitney Houston or Bobby Brown ever ingested. The banter between Syd and Bateman is nothing less than classic. They accurately depict the mindset and conversation of two individuals jacked up on coke. One of the more interesting conversations entails the discussion of the existence of God.

Syd spends the majority of the movie in the bathroom trying to muster up the courage to approach London in a last ditch effort to win her back. While in the bathroom, we get to see why he and London are no longer together. We also learn why Bateman's marriage fell apart, and let's just say, it's one of the better parts of the movie.

Biel gives a less than stellar performance as the title character. In a movie full of strong performances, she by far gives the weakest performance. In the highly emotional scenes between her and Evans, she gets completely outshined. At times, it appeared as if she was stumbling over her lines.

It's hard to determine whether the credit goes to great writing or great acting, but Evans makes Syd, the egotistical narcissist, sympathetic. It's difficult to not feel for him, even though his current state is of his own doing. "London" is what all Indie films aspire to be.
