Golf Team Looks Forward to Season

Chad Young
Staff Writer

The spring 2007 University Arkansas-Monticello Golf team started to make a run for a good season Sunday afternoon.  The team has four members: Junior Chris Halley, Junior Matt Harshfield, Sophomore Cody Young and Senior Chad Young.

Joe Fakouri, UAM golf coach, looks forward to working with the team and helping them improve.

“We lost several strong players, but we are looking for guys to step up. The future looks bright for UAM for the years to come. The recruiting class for the team looks really good. There are several scratch golfers that can compete at the college level that are looking hard at UAM’s Golf team,” Fakouri said.

The first tournament of the season takes place in North Little Rock at Stonelinks. The second tournament is at Magnolia Country Club, and the Gulf South Tournament takes place at Hot Springs Country Club.

Halley, a veteran player with experience, can’t wait for the spring season to begin.

“I’m really looking forward to competing and getting back in the swing of things. We only have three tournaments this semester so it gives us time to prepare the team. The guys on the team scores are improving everyday,” Halley said.

Halley averaged 74 through 18 holes of golf last fall and scored a 72 for his season best. Both Young’s and Harshfield are confident going into first tournament and ready to get after it.
