March 5 In office to issue parking permits. Out at Public Safety Office to make finger print card for Nursing student. Out at UC south to boot vehicle for outstanding parking citations. Out at UC to remove boot from vehicle. Student on his way to PSO to get parking permit. Call from student about car being blocked in at Harris north parking lot. Got car moved. Call from student at UC. She had her cell phone taken from the gym. Went to UC to take report. March 6 Traffic stop for speeding. A complaint of loud noise in the University Apartments A. Made contact with the residents and asked them to keep it down, they complied. No further problems reported. The part went real well with no problems experienced or reported. Appeared to be a large crowd present. Out at Grounds to issue citation to truck for blocking grounds gate. Fire alarm at B apartments. Went to area and found alarm set by student cooking. Maintenance reset alarm. Call from Maxwell about a student that could not get someone to leave his room. Went to area and subject was gone. March 7 Out writing parking citations in various parking lots. Received a call about a black Nissan that sped up to beat Upward Bound students past the crosswalk. Ran plates, will contact driver as soon as is practicable. March 8 Out writing parking citations in various parking lots. Traffic stop on a UAM student for wrong turn on a one-way street. Verbal warning issued. Traffic stop of a Drew Central student at the Weevil Pond for excessively blowing his horn to get the attention of one of his teachers. Issued verbal warning for noise. Escorted UAM student to Crackerbox to get a couple of gallons of gas for her car that had run out in front of UAM DPS. March 9 In office to issue parking permits. Call from RA about marijuana found in Bankston dorm. Made arrest and took to CDF for booking. Call about break in at Jeter. Went to Jeter for report. Assisted student with finding RA to get in room at Bankston. Made traffic stops and issued verbal warnings. March 10 Out at UC to review video on case file. Traffic stop with non-UAM student for no stop at stop sign. Issued verbal warning. Fire alarm at B Apartments. No one was in the room. Rear bedroom smoke alarm sounded. Checked with RA and found no cause. Silenced alarm and will have maintenance check it. Received a call from someone in a lab at the forestry building reporting someone they didn't know was in the building. No contact with anyone in the building. March 11 Received call about strange vehicle around the new apartments. No contact with anyone or a vehicle matching the description. March 12 Observed large amount of smoke coming from residence directly across from UAM property on Bowser road. Went to check if house was on fire or if the owner was burning a brush pile. The owner was burning a brush pile, but the fire got away from him. Requested UAM dispatch to call MPD and have the Monticello Fire Department respond. MPD, Drew County SO and the Monticello Fire Department responded. As soon as the Fire Department had the fire under control, returned to campus. March 13 Campus patrol. No activity other than faculty and staff. Very few vehicles in parking lots or around dorms. March 14 Out at new apartments for unlock and boost.
March 15 A call from Monticello PD asking for assistance with a call for an officer at Drew Central in reference to a fight MPD units were on another call. Found a box with some broken glass enclosed behind the Science Center. There was a strong smell of chemicals coming from the contents. A Science Center faculty member needs to identify the contents and dispose of properly. March 16 Called to Jordon Park for a fight and injured officer. Monticello PD called for all available officers. Clearing out crowd with city, county and state units. March 17 Out to monitor the crowd at the baseball game. Out at the fraternity houses to talk with group playing ball and cooking out. March 18 Fire alarm went off in Royer Hall. No fire, alarm was caused by steam from shower. Issued citation for speeding on campus. Traffic stop for stop sign. March 19 Several complaints in a short period of time about loud music coming from Jeter Hall. A class was also in session inside of the MCB where one of the complaints came from. Asked the fraternity to turn down the music and they complied. Found out that the party was for university students only. Made contact with subjects at the party to check identification. If a subject could not produce an ID, they were told to either go get it or leave. All complied. A call from the RA at Royer Hall complaining about some male subjects talking very loudly in front of the dorm. Made contact with several male students at the VPAC and asked them to disperse. They complied. A fire alarm reported at Bankston Hall. Northeast Pull Station activated, found pull station and silenced and reset the system. While at the dorm, noticed a large amount of trash in front of the dorm on the northeast side. Was able to get a name from a piece of paper that was included in the trash. The name was a resident directly located above the trash pile on the second floor of the dorm. The Bankston GA and I went to the room to make contact with the subject, but the student was not present in the room. He will be written up for a university litter violation by the GA. Out at Jeter Hall to talk with Q's about a party to be held there tonight. They told me that they will have music and will use the outside area between north and east Jeter. This party started about 7:30 p.m., and lasted until 12 a.m. Could not get in contact with Director of Student Programs and Activities to verify. Call from UC about a subject that did not have an ID and would not leave. The subject said he was a student and lived in Bankston. I told him he could not use the UC without his ID. He told me he would go and get his ID. Received call from MCB staff member trying to have class about loud music coming from Jeter Hall. I told them that there was a party to be held that was approved for music, but I would ask them to keep music down until after class. Class was held until 9 p.m. March 20 Talked with Residence Life director and he told me the subject I dealt with in the UC yesterday was not a student. Did some checking and found out that he is staying in Bankston Hall and has been since the start of the semester. I also found out that he had a warrant for his arrest out of Monticello. I checked on the warrant and it was good. I went to Bankston and arrested subject. Booked the subject in and told him that he was not a student and he was stealing services from UAM. If he came back on campus, I would arrest him for Criminal Trespass and take him back to jail. Out at 425 and University Drive to assist Monticello PD with funeral. Out at Maxwell west to ask student to move his truck off the grass. A call of a group being loud behind Horsfall Hall. Made contact with the group and asked them to keep it down. March 21 Out at the library to escort women refilling the ATM machine. Out at Bankston Hall for accident report. Made traffic stop for loud music. Call from student wanting to go into Bankston Hall to get her cell phone back. Subject didn't see who took it, but said these people were around. Advised her to come do a report but she didn't need to get in an argument if she didn't see them do it. She agreed. Received call for student being loud at Java City. Students had already gone when I arrived. March 22 Out at the library for training. Out at the intersection of 425 South and University Drive to assist Drew County Deputies by blocking intersection for passage of funeral procession. Observed a suspicious vehicle entering and leaving campus. Received a call Coach Early informing me that unless Coach Newell was actually there with the basketball players, they were to be run out of the Fieldhouse. Upon arrival at the Fieldhouse, the volleyball team was leaving, and I informed the basketball players that they would have to leave unless Coach Newell was there with them. They decided to play at the UC gym during Intramurals. Out at UC for party. Later, cleared out party. Call for student that collapsed. Student refused EMT treatment, but was sent to hospital. Out to talk with students about music volume. March 23 Out to Sorrells Hall to take report of vehicle window being knocked out. Boost off vehicle at Bankston Hall. Opened U.C. gym for fraternity basketball. Back out at U.C. gym to unlock bleachers for game. March 24 Issued citations at the four-way stop to a couple of vehicles. Advised subjects that dogs aren't allowed in Weevil Pond. Received call from cafeteria worker for students being unruly and not wanting to show IDs and sign sheet. Advised her that I would be there to monitor them for dinner. Have students remove vehicle from grass at volleyball court. Have subjects remove vehicle from grass at the pond. Advised non-students that swimming in the pond was not allowed. Unlocked vehicle at Royer Hall. Advised crowd behind Bankston Hall to turn down music. Monitored students at cafeteria. Had trouble with a group of students who didn't want to have their IDs, this is the same group that every officer on campus has had trouble with. It appears that no one on campus knows that they are suppose to have an ID when they leave their room. The cafeteria has a sign up stating that without ID no one can enter. Back out at the cafeteria to check IDs. A call for all units to assist in the rescue of a child that had fallen in a water well at the Monticello race track. A call to respond to a complaint of loud
party on Bowser Road, Sherriff's Department was still with the previous
call and asked me to handle it.
